MarketWatch — User Manual

1. Getting Started

MarketWatch works out of the box: install it, and an 18-symbol starter portfolio appears with auto-refreshing prices. Every feature is free for the first 14 days.

1. Install MarketWatch on your watch from the Connect IQ Store.
2. Open the app — it opens to the Watch Face Home (a clock screen); tap or press START to enter your markets list. The 14-day full-feature trial starts automatically. No payment, no account.
3. To keep using it after the trial: purchase a lifetime license ($7.99, one-time) on the MarketWatch homepage. You'll receive an activation key by email.
4. Enter the key in Connect IQ Mobile → MarketWatch → Settings → License Key, then restart the app.

2. Watch Face Home

When you open MarketWatch it lands on the Watch Face Home — a clock screen you can make your own. Pick an analog or digital clock, drop in your own image, and add up to three live info rows. Tap to dive into your markets; press BACK to come back to the face.

Clock styles

• Hands — analog hands from the center.
• Rim marks — slim hands that sweep along the rim.
• Digital — time at the top and date at the bottom, like the list screen.

Turn Clock Ticks (the rim graduations) on or off. Colors are grouped under Color: Hand, Clock and Background — Background includes an Auto option that derives a matching tone from your custom image — plus Halo, a dark outline that keeps text readable over a photo background.

Info rows

The home has five row slots (Row 1 to 5). Set each to Off, Net (portfolio total), the Weather Bar, the Physical Bar, or any symbol — chosen by its list slot number. Watches with a 416 px or larger screen show up to five rows; smaller ones show up to four.

Swipe up or down on the home to scroll the rows one step at a time. They slide off the top or the bottom edge, and the image grows into the space they leave behind — so you can go from a full list of rows to just the clock and the image without changing any setting.

Custom image

Show your own image on the face. Open the MarketWatch image page, enter your Device ID and, on an updated MarketWatch, the 6-digit Web code from the watch (no account needed) and upload — it appears as a circular image on your watch, sized to follow the number of rows. Without a custom image, a default logo is shown.

Tap the Image item in the Watch Face menu to cycle its placement: Auto (fills the space left by the rows) ⇄ Full (full screen). If you haven't uploaded a custom image, the default logo is shown instead.

Long-press an empty part of the home (the clock at the top, or the image) to open it: Clock Style, Clock Ticks, Color (Hand / Clock / Background / Halo), Image, Row 1 to 5, Battery Saver, Saver Wake, and your Device ID. Single-choice items like Clock Style and Image cycle in place — just tap to advance, no submenu to open.

3. List Screen

Your markets list — reached by tapping (or pressing START on) the Watch Face Home. Time on top, date at the bottom, and your symbols in between — each row shows name, price, day change (amount and %). The list scrolls in a loop.

Daily change compares with the previous trading day's close taken from daily price data (Yahoo's own 'previous close' can lag by a day for some non-US markets).

4. Managing Symbols

Up to 20 symbols, all managed directly on the watch. No phone needed.

Adding a symbol

1. Tap (or long-press) the date area at the bottom of the list screen.
2. Choose New Entry — the keyboard opens.
3. Type the Yahoo Finance ticker (e.g. AAPL, 7203.T, BTC-USD) and confirm. The name fills in automatically.

• Stocks & ETFs from 30+ exchanges: AAPL, 7203.T, 0700.HK, SAP.DE
• Indices: ^GSPC, ^N225, ^VIX
• FX: USDJPY=X, EURUSD=X
• Crypto: BTC-USD, ETH-USD (USD) or BTC, ETH (JPY)
• Commodity futures: GC=F, CL=F
• US Treasury yields: ^TNX, ^TYX

Prices in currencies that have no minor unit (yen, won, dong and others) are shown as whole numbers. Values that do carry decimals, such as the Nikkei 225, keep them.

5. Detail Screen

Tap a symbol (or choose Open Detail) to see its chart with key stats: high/low of the chart window, the chart's date range (S:/E:), today's volume (Vol:) and the current chart period in the centre, shown as Per: (the window) and TF: (the bar size), for example Per: 1D TF: 5m.

Six chart periods

Switching the period

In the detail screen, press START to step to the next period in the order above, or long-press the Vol: row at the bottom to pick one from a menu (1 Day / 1 Week / 1 Month / 3 Months / 1 Year / 5 Years, each showing its bar size such as TF: 5m, with the current one marked Current). The chart reloads immediately. The current period is shown in the centre as Per: (the window) and TF: (the bar size): 5 min reads Per: 1D TF: 5m, then 1W / 30m, 1M / 90m, 3M / 1D, 1Y / 1W and 5Y / 1M.

The period applies to all symbols and is remembered across restarts.

Technical overlays

Tap the Vol: row at the bottom of the detail screen to pick an overlay drawn on top of the price line. The choice applies to all symbols and is remembered.

Volume bar graph

Tap the H/L · S/E area (just below the chart) to swap those rows for a volume bar graph drawn on the same time axis (one bar per chart point). Tap again to switch back. The choice is remembered.

7. Position Memo & Net

Each symbol has a memo that turns MarketWatch into a portfolio tracker. Tap the chart in the detail screen to open it (a long-press works too); any tap closes it again.

• Cost / Qty — long-press to enter your cost basis and holdings
• Value / P&L / % — calculated automatically from the current price
• Alert 1 / Alert 2 — long-press to set price-cross alert levels (chapter 8)

Tap the memo to close it. All memo data stays on the watch and survives app updates.

The Net row

The Net row is pinned to the top of the list and does not scroll away; a blue line separates it from the symbols. The upper line is the portfolio name, the lower line is the market value on the left and the unrealised P&L in percent (two decimals, like the day change on symbol rows) on the right. Before you enter any Cost or Holdings it simply reads 0.

The Net detail screen

Tap the Net row to open it. Here the Net row at the top changes its lower line to how much the portfolio moved today, as an amount and a percent (the upper line stays the portfolio name). The chart is the aggregate P&L over the chart period, with a cyan dashed break-even line where unrealised gains turn into losses.

Tap the chart to open Contribution: which symbols made today's P&L. It lists the three largest contributions (day change × holdings, by absolute size) and groups the rest as Others. BACK or a tap returns to the chart.

8. Price Alerts

Set up to two alert prices per symbol in its memo. When the current price crosses a level — in either direction — the watch vibrates, plays a tone, and a banner naming the symbol and the level appears over whatever screen you are on.

• The banner stays until you tap it (BACK closes it too), so an alert that fires while you are away from the watch is still there when you look.
• How you're notified is a single Alert item: tap the date area → tap Alert to cycle Vib + Snd → Vibration → Off.
• Alert baselines reset when you change settings, so a level you already crossed won't re-fire immediately.

9. Info Bars

Two optional bars can live inside your list, turning it into a glanceable dashboard — like a watch face with market data.

Weather Bar

• Top row: condition icon + temperature / humidity / wind speed & direction
• Bottom row: air pressure / altitude
• Units for temperature, pressure, altitude and wind speed are set in the Connect IQ settings panel (see Units in chapter 11). Pressure in inHg shows two decimals, such as 29.92.

The bar icons (weather, humidity, pressure, altitude, heart rate, steps, floors, calories, weight) use the same design as The Face. For clear and partly cloudy skies, a moon is shown from sunset to sunrise at your location. Icons: Material Design Icons and Material Symbols (see Credits).

Physical Bar

• Top row: heart rate / floors climbed / weight
• Bottom row: steps / calories

Adding and customizing

1. Tap the date area → choose Weather Bar or Physical Bar. The bar appears right after the top of the cycle.
2. Long-press the bar itself to open its menu: Move to (position), Color (6 colors), Change Type (Weather ⇄ Physical), Delete.

10. Rim Meters

Curved gauges along the left and right edges of the list screen. Assign a data source to each side independently: Body Battery, Stress, or the watch's Battery.

• Body Battery — orange; higher is better
• Stress — red-orange; higher means more stress
• Battery — follows your Clock Color setting

Set the source via the date menu: tap Left Rim Meter / Right Rim Meter to cycle Battery → Body Battery → Stress → None (None hides that side). Values refresh about once a minute.

Each meter's color can be set independently under the date menu's Color submenu (Left / Right Rim Meter): Auto keeps the color-by-metric behavior above, or pick any of the clock palette colors.

11. Settings

Most settings live on the watch: tap the date area on the list screen. Each entry shows its current value, and single-choice items cycle in place when you tap them — no submenu to open.

The Device ID menu

Device ID in the settings menu opens a small menu. Open MarketWatch once after updating to the current version: that registers your watch and makes Web code available.

Signing in on the web: open the sign-in page (WebMemo or the image page), type the Device ID and the 6 digits shown under Web code, and you are in for 30 days on that browser. When you are done on a shared computer, choose Sign out web on the watch.

A few items remain in the phone's Connect IQ settings panel:

Units

The five unit settings change only what you see: the Weather Bar (temperature, pressure, altitude, wind speed), the weather screen and its hourly and daily forecasts (temperature, wind speed), the altitude and pressure graphs, and the weight in the Physical Bar. Auto follows your watch's own unit settings (temperature, altitude and weight use their own settings; wind speed follows the distance unit: m/s for metric, mph for statute). Everything defaults to Auto except pressure, which defaults to hPa. If you had already chosen a wind speed unit, it stays as it was.

12. Complications & Glance

Watchface complications

MarketWatch publishes up to two symbols as complications. Pick them on the watch: tap the date area at the bottom of the list, open Menu, then Complication, and choose each slot by symbol name from the current portfolio. Then pick MarketWatch as a data field in any compatible watchface. The choice is fixed at that moment: switching to another portfolio does not change what the watchface shows, so pick again when you want a different symbol. The complications keep updating about every 5 minutes, even with MarketWatch closed. Tapping the complication jumps straight into that symbol's detail screen.

Glance

In the watch's glance list, MarketWatch shows either the Net (portfolio P&L) or one symbol of your choice — set via Glance Display in the Connect IQ panel.

13. Battery Saver

When you leave the watch alone, MarketWatch dims to just the clock and date on a black background. Prices keep updating. Tap the screen (or raise your wrist) to return.

It helps even with Garmin's Always On display setting off — the watch blanks the screen from your wrist angle, which keeps it lit during desk work.

Settings

Both items are in the Watch Face settings menu (long-press an empty part of the home). Battery Saver is off by default.

14. WebMemo Sync

WebMemo is a free web workspace for MarketWatch owners. Build your portfolio on a full-size screen, then send it to the watch — and send the watch’s list back when you edit on your wrist.

The MW chip in WebMemo marks the portfolios the watch may use — up to three. The watch follows one of them at a time, and both directions use that one. On the watch, tap the date area at the bottom of the list screen to open the menu; two entries run the sync:

Long-press the Net row at the top of the list. The watch fetches the portfolios you marked with the MW chip and lists them; pick one and it is received into the 20 slots straight away. The Net row then shows that portfolio's name instead of "Net".

While it runs

Progress appears on the menu row itself (Auth… → Loading… → the result), so you can leave the menu open and watch it finish. Keep your phone connected — the sync goes through Garmin Connect Mobile like price updates do.

If it doesn’t work

• No license key — on an updated MarketWatch the sync uses the watch's own registration, so no key is needed: open MarketWatch once so the watch registers. On an older version, enter your purchase key in the app settings.
• Registered elsewhere — another watch has registered with this Device ID, so sync stops. See chapter 11 and contact us.
• No WebMemo plan — the watch has no active trial or purchase. Buy or start the trial first.
• Nothing arrives on the watch — the MW chip decides which portfolio is synced.
• It went to the wrong portfolio — both directions use the one the watch is following. Long-press the Net row to switch, or check the name shown on that row.

15. Troubleshooting

Web code says not available yet

Your watch has not registered yet. Open MarketWatch once after updating, keep the phone connected, and try the item again after a minute.

The web page does not accept the Web code

Each code works once and for 10 minutes: open Web code again and use the digits it shows now (five wrong tries also void a code). Expired. Open again means the same. Network error. Try again means the watch could not reach the server even after retrying: check the phone connection and open the item again.

Registered elsewhere. See Device ID

Another watch has registered with this Device ID. If you replaced your watch, contact us via easymoat.com/marketwatch and we move the registration. Reinstalling the app on the same watch needs nothing: it registers itself again.

Prices show “--” or stop updating

Check that your watch is connected to Garmin Connect Mobile and the phone has internet. With many symbols and a 30-second interval, some fetches can lag — reduce the symbol count or lengthen the Refresh Interval.

A ticker shows “--” forever

The ticker is probably wrong or delisted. Verify it with the lookup tool on the homepage (exchange suffix matters: 7203.T, not 7203).

The chart area says Loading... for a long time

Chart data downloads on demand; on a weak phone connection the longer periods (1 week / 1 month) can take several seconds. Tap the clock at the top to retry.

Weather Bar shows “--”

The watch hasn't received weather from your phone recently. Open Garmin Connect on the phone with internet access, wait a minute, then re-open MarketWatch. Note that on some models, altitude and air pressure may not be available.

“No volume data” in the volume graph

Normal for FX pairs and indices — they have no traded volume.

Trial expired — symbols disappeared

Purchase a license on the homepage ($7.99 one-time), enter the emailed key in Connect IQ settings → License Key, and restart the app. Your symbols and memos are still on the watch and reappear after activation.
